'Sanctuary' is runner-up in BBC Award

My story 'Sanctuary' came second in the 2012 BBC International Short Story Award, which was awarded on 2 October. The event at the Free Word Centre in London was broadcast live on the Radio 4 arts show Front Row. The £15 000 first prize went to Miroslav Penkov for his story 'East of the West'. The ten stories on the shortlist are being published in an anthology by Comma Press.

The judges describe 'Sanctuary' as a 'subtle but powerful story' that 'traces a nostalgic trip back to a childhood haunt in the South African bush' and 'explores the experience of domestic violence and its consequences'.
